This past Thursday, our local Washington-Centerville Public Library hosted a super-cute event that I was really looking forward to called “And He Was Still Hungry…” based on the book, The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. It’s one of our favorites books, so I really wanted to check it out with Dylan.
There was a huge turnout for the event, and they kicked things off by reading the book (in a pop-up version) to the group of kids and parents. It was adorable when everyone started reading along out loud, by memory, of course.
After the book was read, the big celebrity arrived!
There were a lot of gasps and “wows” from the group when he walked in, which was adorable. I totally sympathized with the person walking around in that great big costume! It was a really GREAT costume, though! 🙂
After he made his way to the room next door, the kids got to do a variety of crafts and activities while we waited for our number to be called for the photo op. This was a GREAT idea because I’m sure it avoided a huge crush of kids trying to get to the caterpillar!
I think this craft was Dylan’s favorite!
He REALLY loved the cornhole game that was there, too! But forget throwing the bean bags – he just walked right up and dropped them into the hole.
Finally, it was our turn for the photo op. I was nervous that Dylan would freak out and cry, but it was just the opposite!
At first he seemed a bit in awe…
Then he loved him and hugged him…
Then he got really comfortable with him and acted like he just wanted to hang out next to him all day…
Finally, we got a picture together…
It’s definitely not the most flattering Mommy picture, but none of them are, right?! I was grateful that the library had someone there to take the picture, though.
The event was so adorable and so well-run, and I can’t wait to take Dylan to another special event like this! Luckily, our library hosts events like this on a regular basis, so I’m guessing there will be more fun in the Fall.
