Today I’m continuing with my five-post Memorial Day Weekend series featuring some FUN activities to do with your kiddos to kick off the summer! You may have seen these ideas featured on Living Dayton this past Friday… I had a blast being on the show!
In today’s post, it’s all about how to make some super simple Sponge Water Bombs. Trust me – your kids will have a ton of fun with these!
There are several great tutorials on Pinterest showing how to make these fun water toys. There are tons of variations and ways you can customize them. Here’s what I did, and it worked great!
First, I picked up a few six-packs of Ocelo sponges at Walmart…
I used three sponges per water bomb, and cut each sponge into four shorter, equal-sized rectangles.
Then I stacked the twelve little rectangles…
… and gathered them up with a rubber band.
It literally took me just a couple of minutes to make three sponge water bombs. I fluffed them out a bit after they were gathered with the rubber bands, too. You could always use fewer sponges to make them, but I think using the 12 small pieces made them really fluffy, able to hold more water, and easier to catch and throw.
Finally, I took them outside to my little guy in his pool! 🙂
After soaking them in the water, he promptly threw them right at me. Of course.
He thought soaking his mom was hilarious! I was definitely surprised at how much water those little suckers held. I got soaked!
So he did it again…
Right at me!!! Good shot, little buddy!
Hope you enjoy making these easy and fun water bombs for your kiddos this holiday weekend! They’re sure to be a blast all summer long!
